At least two people have been killed and about 60 hurt by a 7.0-magnitude earthquake which struck the north of Japan's main island.

The epicentre was in Akita prefecture, 100km (60 miles) north of the city of Sendai, at a depth of 10km (6.2 miles), according to the US Geological Survey.

The tremor rattled buildings in nearby towns and in the capital, Tokyo, 390km (240 miles) to the south.

All high-speed bullet trains in the area were automatically shut down.

Two nuclear power plants nearby were being inspected but there were no immediate signs of damage, officials said.

Several people were reportedly buried under mud at a hot spring hit by a landslide, with up to 100 more reportedly trapped.

Opinion: Quake kills two in northern Japan

The earthquake disaster in Japan had killed several lives and properties. Japanese transportations have been disrupted due to the said phenomena which staggers the daily activities of Japanese people. It is disturbing to think that these phenomena causing commotion to the people who are living in normal activities.

Occurrence of earthquake in Japan which is also known as one of the earthquake prone in the whole world serves as a message to the global and environmental situations that are happening nowadays. The nature are slowly deteriorating and disasters mostly happen. A great awareness should be implemented these days so that there will be less damage on properties and less people dying if another disaster happen.

Believing in Japanese character, they can rise again and continue their lives again. A common thing people believe that it is hard to adjust and experience fatal earthquake attacks but with them, no matter how big the disasters might be, through their cooperation and concern on one other they can uplift their lives and save many people. In reality, hoping those people who are affected, buried alive and trapped can already be found and rescued so that they can return to their families, dead or alive.
